Domenico Caliendo case: Oppido interrogated for a long time: "Clamping just minutes earlier."

The questioning of cardiac surgeon Guido Oppido , heard in Naples as part of the investigation into the heart transplant of young Domenico Caliendo , lasted approximately three hours. At the end of the hearing, lawyers Vittorio Manes and Alfredo Sorge emphasized that the doctor had "answered all the questions of the judge and the public prosecutor," reiterating a "logical, chronological, and unaltered" version of events.

According to the defense, the reconstruction provided by the professional would be supported by documentary elements deemed consistent with what had already been previously stated.

The knot of times

The investigation remains focused on the timing of the removal and, in particular, the timing of the aortic clamping. This step is considered crucial, especially in relation to the accusation of falsifying medical records.

The lawyers argue that, also in light of the documentary evidence submitted, there has been a "change of charge." Specifically, they highlight how the prosecutor's own consultants acknowledged that the clamping could not have occurred before 2:24 PM, just minutes before the removal recorded at 2:34 PM.

The alleged inconsistencies

Investigators are focusing their attention on the alleged discrepancies between the data reported in the CEC file compiled by the perfusionist and the surgical report.

On this point, the defense denies all charges, ruling out a "lack of contextualization" between the different phases of the operation. According to their claims, both Oppido and Dr. Bergonzoni consistently confirmed that they initiated extracorporeal circulation with the arrival of the transplant team and that they began the cardioectomy only after the box entered the operating room.

The defensive line

The defense also reiterates that the surgeon operated in full compliance with the chain of responsibility, highlighting how the operation was performed after receiving the "heart OK" from the Bolzano transplant team.
Oppido remains under investigation for manslaughter and forgery, while the investigation continues to clarify any culpability in the management of the transplant.

Deepening

The timing of Domenico Caliendo's transplant remains an enigma to be solved.
The lengthy interrogation of the cardiac surgeon Oppido focuses directly on the aortic clamping,
key moment to understand if there have been falsifications in the medical records.
But how much can forensic expertise really tell us in such a technical and delicate case?
