With the final vote in the Chamber, the Capri Marine Protected Area becomes a reality, marking a historic milestone for environmental protection and sustainable development in the Gulf of Naples.

The Gulf of Naples becomes the first in Italy to have marine protected areas: the green light has been given to the Capri Marine Protected Area.
Capri, 11 June 2026 – A decisive step towards the protection of the marine environment and for the sustainable economic growth of the territory was taken today with the final approval by the Chamber of Deputies of the decree establishing theMarine Protected Area of the Island of Capri. This measure officially establishes the protection of the entire Gulf of Naples, making it the first in Italy to be completely covered by marine protected areas.
The announcement comes from Federalberghi Capri president Lorenzo Coppola, who calls the day "historic" for the protection of the area's natural heritage and economic future. Coppola emphasizes that this achievement represents the final step in a long journey that has finally led to the creation of a unique protection regime.
The creation of the marine park, explains the hoteliers' leader, should not be seen as a limitation, but rather as an opportunity to enhance the sea and all related activities, from tourism to fishing. The future challenge will be to combine local economic development with the protection of marine ecosystems, through collaborative efforts between operators and institutions.
A crucial first step will be the definition of the park's regulations, the result of active collaboration between the production groups and the authorities, to ensure the protection of biodiversity without penalizing traditional activities such as fishing and tourism.
"Today's approval erases all accumulated delays and requires an acceleration to demonstrate that the economy and the environment can work together, becoming the driving force of well-being for the entire island community," concludes Coppola.
With this decision, the Gulf of Naples confirms its position as a national example of ecological commitment and responsible development, ushering in a new era for the sustainable management of marine resources.
