He's on vacation in Palinuro, far from his workplace, but he hasn't chosen to turn a blind eye to an emergency.

Nello Cerrato, a nurse working in the 118 local health emergency at the Martiri del Villa Malta hospital in Sarno, carries an emergency kit with him even during his holidays.

Sudden illness and prompt intervention

Last night, Friday, August 21, 2026, a woman suddenly collapsed after feeling unwell. Cerrato was nearby and didn't hesitate to intervene.
"In those moments there's no time to hesitate: you have to act, put into practice what you've learned and try to stay calm," says Nello Cerrato.

Life-saving maneuvers and the rush to the hospital

The nurse performed first aid, and fortunately, the patient showed signs of recovery. Meanwhile, the ambulance arrived, took charge of the woman, and transported her to the hospital.
"I didn't turn away. I was on vacation, but I couldn't remain indifferent to someone who needed help," Cerrato adds.

The importance of training and first aid

This isn't a story to tell to feel like a hero. It's a story worth sharing to remind us of something much more important: when faced with cardiac arrest, knowing what to do can truly make a difference.

First aid training, knowledge of resuscitation techniques, and the ability to intervene promptly can transform a few dramatic minutes into a concrete chance of survival.

Luckily, that opportunity arose last night. "Our thoughts go out to the patient and her family, hoping she can continue her recovery journey. Learning to save a life is never a waste of time," Cerrato concludes.
