Pozzuoli: Parish priests and Caritas appeal against rent increases following the bradyseism.

The serious emergency triggered by the seismic events in Pozzuoli in late July and early August led to the evacuation of approximately 2.000 people and the declaration of uninhabitability of 125 buildings, including many schools and parishes. In this context, local parish priests and the Diocesan Caritas have issued a pressing appeal to property owners in the Phlegraean Fields area and in neighboring municipalities not included in the so-called "Red Zone."

The recommendation is not to take advantage of the difficult situation by increasing rent. Already, 780 families, totaling over 2.000 people, have applied for the Contribution for Independent Accommodation (CAS) to cope with the temporary loss of their homes. However, a worrying increase in rent prices has been recorded, which risks further worsening the situation of the affected families.

Representatives of the ecclesiastical community, led by Bishop Carlo Villano, emphasize that the current crisis requires a strong sense of solidarity and social responsibility. Housing, they explain, should not become a tool for speculation at such a delicate time, but should remain a shared asset, in accordance with the values ​​of charity and justice.

Despite the damage suffered by church buildings, parish priests remain close to local communities, especially the most vulnerable, committed to supporting those forced to leave their homes. In this context, establishing a solidarity network is essential to prevent abuse and ensure that no one is left alone in this phase of reconstruction and recovery.
