Pozzuoli after the quake: 2.300 people displaced and over 1.400 rescue operations. The Prefect: "We're protecting homes and rentals."

Naples – The rescue operations continue unabated in Pozzuoli and the Phlegraean Fields municipalities affected by the earthquake of July 31st. The Rescue Coordination Center (CCS), led by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, along with the heads of the Civil Protection Department, the Fire Department, and the local mayors, has provided an update: the immediate emergency is gradually giving way to structural checks and the securing of the area.

The emergency toll: over 2.300 people left home

The numbers reflect the scale of the event. The Fire Department has already completed over 1.400 interventions, drastically reducing the waiting list to just 36 remaining inspections. 199 buildings have been evacuated by firefighters, for a total of 974 affected residential units.

On the municipal front, the Municipality of Pozzuoli has issued 153 interdiction orders to date, affecting 913 families, equivalent to 2.387 citizens forced to leave their homes. The majority of them (2.260 people) have found independent accommodation with relatives or friends, 127 have been housed in hotels under special agreements, while 72 citizens are currently staying at the Palatrincone facility.

Water mains and landslides: technicians at work in the historic center

Alongside residential inspections, managing essential services remains a priority. In Pozzuoli, efforts are underway to overcome the water crisis: Gori and ABC teams have launched 83 operations to identify and repair leaks that are still leaving some areas of the historic center without water.

Maximum attention was also paid to soil stability. Technical inspections were carried out along the rock face on Via Montagna Spaccata and on Via Cupa Cigliano, where the detachment of a boulder from an ancient Roman villa required the precautionary evacuation of some surrounding buildings. Meanwhile, the SMA Campania continues operations to set up the HUB on Via Artiaco, designated for Civil Protection activities.

Cultural heritage and transportation: trains suspended until September

During the week, the checks on religious buildings and archaeological heritage will also be concluded, conducted by the Superintendency in collaboration with the Diocese, the Carabinieri of the Cultural Heritage Protection Unit and the Fire Brigade.

On the mobility front, several weeks of disruption are expected. The Monte Olibano tunnels (Cumana line) and the Camaldoli tunnels (Circumflegrea line) require repairs. EAV has confirmed that construction work will proceed quickly, with the goal of reopening the lines by the second half of September; until then, replacement buses will operate.

Security and legality: anti-looter controls and rent crackdowns

The institutions' commitment extends beyond technical aspects. During the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, a significant increase in patrols was decided in the "red zones" and evacuated neighborhoods to prevent burglaries from unattended homes. Initial checks have already led to the arrest of one burglar.

At the same time, the Prefecture has initiated a monitoring effort on the real estate market to prevent speculation and unjustified rent increases to the detriment of displaced families.

"The institutional machinery is not limited to managing the technical emergency, but also protects the legality and dignity of citizens in all its forms," ​​underlined Prefect Michele di Bari. "The State's closeness to the affected areas is demonstrated also and above all by defending the safety and rights of the population."
