Naples: A 17-year-old was attacked with a knife in Piazza Carlo III. The manhunt for the attacker is ongoing.

This time, the incident occurred in Piazza Carlo III, and the victim is a 17-year-old from Pomigliano, with no criminal record, who suffered facial injuries after what, according to initial reconstructions, was an attack by an unknown assailant.

This is yet another incident that brings attention to the volatile and difficult-to-contain scourge of nighttime violence among young people. A series of assaults, arguments, fights, and stabbings, especially in the evening and nighttime, often evokes the same image: kids going out, groups meeting, arguments that can quickly escalate, and, all too often, the appearance of a knife. Carabinieri from the Naples Mobile Radio Unit responded yesterday evening to the emergency room of Villa Betania Hospital, where the young man had been taken. The 17-year-old had a wound to the left eyebrow area, just above his eye.

According to what has emerged so far, the boy was in Piazza Carlo III with some friends, simply chatting with them when he was approached by a man. It took only a moment, then the attack: the stranger allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 17-year-old in the face, before walking away.

This reconstruction is still provisional, and investigators are conducting all necessary checks. It's still unclear what preceded the attack, whether there was an argument between the boy and his attacker, or whether the attack occurred suddenly and without any apparent motive.

The 17-year-old was treated by paramedics and later released. The injury did not require hospitalization, and he was given a four-day prognosis.

Cameras to identify the attacker

Now the Carabinieri are investigating, primarily to identify the man who allegedly wielded the knife. A crucial step could come from surveillance cameras in the Piazza Carlo III area.

Investigators will have to check available images, reconstruct the movements of the 17-year-old and his friends, and search for any useful images that could help identify the attacker, including in the phases immediately before and after the stabbing.

We will also collect testimonies from those present at the time, in the hope that someone can provide useful information to identify the perpetrator.

But beyond the identity of the attacker, the motive for the attack remains unclear. Investigators will have to determine whether the attack was triggered by an argument, provocation, a degenerate discussion, or an apparently unprovoked attack.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Carabinieri will determine what really happened and who injured the 17-year-old. But this latest incident raises, once again, a question to which Neapolitan nightlife continues to provide troubling answers: how many more knives will have to appear before this spiral of youth violence can truly be stemmed?
