EuroVolley, Manfredi: "Naples is hosting an unprecedented sporting event."

Naples is preparing for a special evening with the opening of the European Men's Volleyball Championships. Tomorrow, September 10, at 9:05 PM, the world champions will face Sweden in Piazza del Plebiscito, transformed for the occasion into a large open-air arena.

This event, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi considers historic for the city and particularly significant in the year in which Naples is the European Capital of Sport.

"An unprecedented sporting event will take place tomorrow in Piazza del Plebiscito. For the first time, the men's EuroVolley will play its opening match in an open space, choosing one of our city's most iconic locations as an extraordinary setting," Manfredi said during the press conference introducing the match.

The mayor also emphasized the event's significance beyond the competitive aspect. "It's an event that fills us with pride, and in the year in which Naples is the European Capital of Sport, it takes on even greater significance, demonstrating how sport is a tool for inclusion, unity, and sharing in our city."

The choice of Naples as the venue for the inaugural match is also seen as a confirmation of the city's growing international vocation and its ability to host major events.

"Naples has once again been chosen as the showcase for a major event, confirming its ever-growing international vocation and organizational capacity," Manfredi concluded.

The anticipation is now high for the match against Sweden, with Piazza del Plebiscito ready to transform into a huge grandstand to accompany the national team in the first match of the tournament.

"We're confident that tomorrow will be a night of great sport, entertainment, and community participation, where the square will transform into an open-air grandstand for us all to support and cheer on our national team's champions."
