Agropoli, Fico: "The hospital must have its own emergency room."

The future of the Agropoli hospital emergency room was the focus of the Campania Regional Council's Question Time. Councilor Rosario Andreozzi, of the Green and Left Alliance, raised the issue with a question regarding the administrative requirements of the Salerno Local Health Authority, the timeframe for its activation, and the facility's inclusion in the emergency care network.

"The hospital must have its own emergency room and provide emergency care to adequately guarantee citizens' right to health, also by engaging with local civic committees," Andreozzi emphasized.

Campania Regional President Roberto Fico intervened on the issue, reiterating the regional administration's position. "The Region's position on Agropoli is clear, and I have expressed it publicly: the hospital must have its own emergency room," Fico said.

The governor then outlined the process already underway by the Salerno Local Health Authority. "The mandate I gave to the General Director of the Salerno Local Health Authority has been fulfilled. With the new corporate act adopted in July, the Agropoli facility is now classified as a disadvantaged area hospital and emergency department, integrated with the Vallo della Lucania first-level emergency department, according to the model established by Ministerial Decree 70," Fico added.

Emergency care is currently provided by the First Aid Point. The next step involves the actual opening of the Emergency Department, which will require an adequate number of doctors specialized in emergency care.

"At this stage, emergency care is provided by the First Aid Point. Activating the Emergency Room requires a sufficient number of emergency physicians to ensure safety standards for patients and staff," the president explained.

The new procedure is now being published, as part of the completion of the process required by the company charter. "The company is working to remove the obstacles that prevented the success of the previous ones," Fico concluded.
