Ports: Strikes scheduled for September 11th and 12th in Naples and Salerno suspended

Naples – The regional secretariats of Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and UilTrasporti Campania have suspended the strike called for September 11 and 12 in the ports of Naples and Salerno. The decision comes after the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port Authority convened a meeting to address the dispute over resources allocated to companies and entities authorized to provide temporary port labor (CULPs).

A suspension of "responsibility", not a waiver

"Suspending the strike is a responsible decision and a sign of openness to dialogue, but it in no way represents a renunciation of our demands," the three regional secretariats wrote in a joint statement. "September 16th will be a decisive date.

The trade unions expect the Port Authority to provide concrete, reliable, and timely responses that will ensure the necessary resources for the CULPs and, more generally, safeguard employment and the full functionality of the Naples and Salerno port system.

"No more postponements or generic answers"

In the statement, the three unions reiterate their hard line: "We have chosen to suspend the strike because we believe it is our duty to fully explore the possibility of finding a solution through discussion. But let it be clear to everyone: we are not available for further postponements or generic responses.

Port work and its employment stability cannot be considered a secondary variable. On September 16th, specific commitments, resources, and deadlines must be established. The suspension of the strike is closely tied to the outcome of that meeting. If adequate responses are not forthcoming, we are ready to resume mobilization and implement all necessary initiatives to protect workers.
