Pompeii: An illegal villa in the red zone has been demolished.

Pompeii – As part of the efforts to combat illegal construction—a priority identified by the Public Prosecutor's Office—an illegal structure was demolished in Pompeii, executing two demolition orders issued by the Torre Annunziata Court.

What the property looked like

The structure, constructed of reinforced concrete and intended for residential use, had two levels (ground floor and first floor) and consisted of 18 pillars on a foundation beam grid, two floors, a stairwell with a turret, and a roof slab. The building, fully finished and equipped with technological systems, occupied a floor area of 110 square meters per floor, for a total of 220 square meters.

Where it stood and the constraints violated

The work was located in the municipality of Pompeii, in via Tre Ponti, II Traversa Vicinale n. 21. The area is subject to a series of stringent constraints: environmental heritage constraint (Legislative Decree 42/2004), seismic constraint (Law 64/1974 and subsequent amendments), belonging to the Red Zone at high volcanic risk (LR 21/2003) and classification in the “E1 – Normal agricultural” zone.

The sentences carried out after years

The demolition resulted in the execution of two convictions related to sentences dating back to 1998 and 2003, confirming the length of the proceedings and the authorities' commitment to carrying out judicial orders.
Car scrapping: no cost to the community

Thanks in part to the Office's outreach efforts, the demolition was carried out under a self-demolition regime by the building's owner. Consequently, no advance payment was made to the Municipality of Pompeii or the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.

The meaning of the intervention

For the Prosecutor's Office, the execution of demolitions ordered by the judicial authorities represents an irreplaceable tool for protecting the territory: not only from a repressive perspective, to restore the violated environmental conditions, but also from a preventative perspective, for its effective dissuasion against new abuses.
