Fire in Airola, still burning and smoke: residents will hold a sit-in on Friday

The emergency is not over yet in Airola, where operations continue to extinguish the remaining fires in the waste storage facility devastated by the fire on August 31st. The flames have been extinguished, but a column of smoke continues to rise from the industrial area, affecting an area spanning the provinces of Benevento, Avellino, and Caserta.

The smoke has also reached the city of Benevento, prompting Mayor Clemente Mastella to issue a new warning to the public. While awaiting the results of environmental assessments, residents are advised to wear masks and other respiratory protection.

Meanwhile, concern and anger are growing in the area. Citizens and administrators are expressing the sentiment of a new episode that, according to the protesters, could have been avoided.

Questions about the management of the warehouse are being raised by Alessandro Fucci, president of the AslimItaly association, which has been working for years to address issues of injustice and the protection of small and medium-sized businesses.

"If the warehouse where the fire broke out, owned by a private company, had been under judicial administration for some time, who should have managed the business and who should have supervised it?"

This question is part of the tense climate that followed the fire and seeks to clarify any responsibilities related to the management and supervision of the facility.

The local protest has already been scheduled. On Friday at 7:00 PM, citizens, associations, and institutional representatives will gather in Piazza Vincenzo Lombardi in Airola for a sit-in. Participants have been asked to wear masks as a precaution.

The goal of the mobilization is to obtain answers and assurances about the fire's effects, especially regarding air quality and health protection. While environmental assessments are still ongoing, Airola and the surrounding municipalities are awaiting reliable data to understand the true extent of the fire's consequences.
