The seized landfill
Agricultural land transformed into an illegal waste dump. This is what emerged from an operation conducted Tuesday afternoon in Succivo, in the Caserta province, by Carabinieri from the Sant'Arpino station, with the support of the Marcianise Forestry Operations Unit.
The military has placed an area of approximately 500 square meters under criminal seizure, as part of its efforts to combat environmental crimes in the so-called "Land of Fires."
During the inspection, the Carabinieri discovered a significant accumulation of materials stored without the necessary permits. These included hazardous waste from demolition and construction activities, used tires, and wooden pallet parts.
The total volume of the material found was estimated at approximately 150 cubic meters: a far from negligible quantity, which required the immediate intervention of the police.
The investigations also revealed that the area was being used in a manner that did not conform to its original urban planning purpose. From agricultural land, the land was apparently used for waste disposal without the required permits.
Given the situation that emerged, the entire area, its premises, and all the waste present were seized.
A 55-year-old businessman, originally from Succivo and residing in the Aversa countryside, has been reported to the judicial authorities at large. He is considered seriously suspected of unauthorized waste management.
The area and the seized materials have been entrusted to the owner's judicial custody, pending further formalities.
Waste characterisation interventions will now be necessary, aimed at precisely determining their nature and composition, and the subsequent disposal operations according to the procedures established by law.
