State Road 162, a key traffic artery in Naples and its province, has been transformed into an open-air landfill, with hundreds of bags of waste abandoned along the roadway, in green spaces, and behind guardrails. Among the materials found are unsorted and hazardous waste, as well as textile scraps, raising suspicions of possible irregular disposals linked to unauthorized production activities.
The danger isn't just environmental degradation and decorum: bags thrown directly onto the roadway pose a real safety risk to drivers and motorcyclists who use the roads every day.
Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP and environmental activist, conducted a raid on the site, denouncing the widespread practice of throwing bags out of car windows and illegal dumping. Borrelli emphasized the need for immediate cleanup and a video surveillance system to identify those responsible and prevent further abuse.
The situation highlights a significant criticality, not only from an environmental perspective but also for road safety, with the risk that these dumpings may be the result of an organized illegal waste disposal scheme. The call is for tighter controls and concrete measures to protect one of the busiest and most vital roads in the area.
