Pontecagnano, a major seizure of counterfeit and toxic cosmetics: over 37 items recalled from the market.

As part of its efforts to monitor illegal trade and ensure product safety, the Salerno Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza has intensified checks against the sale of counterfeit and non-compliant items.

In recent days, the Salerno Group's financial police carried out a major seizure in Pontecagnano Faiano, discovering thousands of personal care products. A total of 35.129 counterfeit items were seized, including body creams, shampoos, and hair dyes bearing trademarks traceable to well-known cosmetics brands.

The Guardia di Finanza also identified 1.428 unsafe products lacking the mandatory documentation required by national and European regulations. Even more serious was the discovery of 1.116 cosmetics considered dangerous to public health.

They contained butylphenyl methylpropional, better known as Lilial, a synthetic fragrance banned in personal care products in the European Union. The substance is associated with possible harmful effects on fertility, fetal development, and a high risk of allergic reactions.

Following the investigation, an Italian citizen, the legal representative of a company operating in the wholesale trade of non-food products, was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office. He will be charged with counterfeiting, receiving stolen goods, and violations of cosmetic product safety regulations.

The operation confirms the Salerno Guardia di Finanza's ongoing commitment to combating illicit trafficking, protecting consumer health, and promoting fair competition for operators who comply with the rules.
