Sant'Arpino: A woman runs over two teenagers and flees; she was tracked down thanks to security cameras.

Sant'Arpino – A man struck two minors near a bar on Via De Gasperi and fled without providing assistance. The incident occurred in the Caserta area, where Carabinieri from the local station and the mobile unit located a 29-year-old woman living in the area.

The two injured boys were transported to the hospitals in Caserta and Aversa with yellow status. According to the reconstruction, their lives are not in danger.

After the accident was reported, the Carabinieri began an investigation and identified the driver, partly through analysis of surveillance camera footage. The vehicle involved, a rental Fiat Panda, was seized.

The young woman was charged with personal injury while driving and hit-and-run with failure to assist. She was also charged with administrative violations for driving without a license and for not having the required vehicle rental documentation. Once caught by the Carabinieri, she admitted her guilt.

Too many road pirates, an open wound in Campania

Once again, the Campania news reports an accident, two young people injured, and a hit-and-run. Technology, in this case, was crucial: without the cameras, the driver might not have been identified. But the issue isn't just the efficiency of the investigation. The point is that, too often, on Campania's roads, people continue to run away after hitting someone.

"Hit-and-miss drivers" aren't an abstract category. They are drivers without licenses, without insurance, driving rental vehicles without the required documents, or simply people who, after a mistake, choose to flee rather than seek help. It's a choice that aggravates everything: the physical harm, the psychological trauma, the sense of impunity.

Campania isn't just a region of these incidents, but local news reports report similar stories all too frequently. We need more controls, more video surveillance, clear and swift punishments, but also a culture of responsibility that begins in schools and families. Cameras help find the culprits, but they can't replace civic awareness.

Every escape without assistance is a defeat for the entire community. Because even before regulations, what's lacking is respect for the lives of others.
