Teverola: The 83rd anniversary of the Carabinieri massacre was commemorated.

A commemorative ceremony was held this morning at the Teverola municipal cemetery to mark the 83rd anniversary of the massacre of the fourteen Carabinieri officers from the Naples-Porto station, shot by the Nazis on September 13, 1943, along with two civilians.

The event was attended by several civil, religious, and military authorities. Among those present were the mayor of Teverola, Dr. Gennaro Caserta, the president of the Province of Caserta, Anacleto Colombiano, the bishop of Aversa, Monsignor Angelo Spinillo, and the Honorable Gerolamo Cangiano. Representing the Carabinieri were the provincial commander of the Caserta Carabinieri, Col. Federico Scarabello, and the regional inspector of the National Carabinieri Association, Gen. Domenico Cagnazzo, accompanied by representatives of the local branches of the ANC.

A laurel wreath was laid in honor of the victims in front of the war memorial. The ceremony was marked by a moment of silence and remembrance, with the participation of both active-duty and retired military personnel.

In his speech, Colonel Scarabello recalled the sacrifice of the fourteen soldiers from the Naples-Porto Station and emphasized the value of memory as a link between past and present, particularly encouraging young people to learn about that chapter of history. He also highlighted the connection between the memory of the fallen and the daily service of the Corps, noting that, despite times having changed, being close to people, listening, and a spirit of service remain central.

The provincial commander concluded with a reminder of the value of daily commitment: “It is precisely through this daily commitment that the memory of the fallen lives on and their example retains all its strength even today.”

The ceremony concluded with a sense of remembrance and a desire to keep alive the memory of the fourteen Carabinieri and two civilians who lost their lives in Teverola, so that their sacrifice will remain a testimony for future generations.
