Casaluce, waste dumped in the recently reclaimed area
A recently remediated area has once again come under the scrutiny of the Carabinieri Forestale (Forestry Police) for alleged illegal waste dumping. This occurred in Casaluce, in the Piro area, where officers from the Marcianise unit reconstructed how materials from painting activities were allegedly dumped on the land.
Following the investigation, two spouses were reported at large to the judicial authorities, currently considered seriously suspected of violating environmental regulations.
The investigation began with footage from video surveillance cameras installed in the surrounding area. The area is under particular scrutiny because it was recently remediated as part of the measures ordered by the Government Commissioner for the safety of contaminated sites and illegal landfills.
Recordings examined by the Forestry Department revealed that a white Fiat arrived at the site on September 3rd and that, shortly thereafter, various materials were abandoned there. The vehicle was traced to a 64-year-old man from the Caserta area, identified as the alleged perpetrator of the spill. The investigation continued with further video acquisitions by the Casaluce Local Police.
The new images revealed another element: a woman was in the passenger seat of the car, her face clearly visible. The woman was identified as a 65-year-old woman, the man's wife. Officers then conducted further checks at the couple's home. The same vehicle used to reach the spill site was reportedly found there.
Another clue concerns the gray paint on the house gate, with chromatic characteristics compatible with that found on one of the abandoned packages. Special waste and seizure of the car. The materials recovered from the area were classified as special waste, both hazardous and non-hazardous, attributable to painting activities.
These included metal packaging contaminated with white paint, a plastic container, and metal packaging with residues of rust-proof enamel and gray paint, the latter considered hazardous waste. Based on the evidence gathered, the two spouses were charged, on various counts and according to their respective alleged responsibilities, with the offences provided for by environmental legislation regarding the abandonment and dumping of special waste, including hazardous waste.
On the afternoon of September 10, at the conclusion of their investigations, the Carabinieri Forestali also seized the vehicle believed to have been used to transport the waste.
The project is particularly significant given the nature of the location: a recently reclaimed area and therefore still monitored, with prevention and control services designed to prevent the recurrence of illegal dumping. The investigation confirms the role of the Carabinieri Forestali in protecting the territory.
Image analysis, supplemented by field investigations and demographic and documentary checks, allowed us to reconstruct the alleged events of the spill and identify the individuals believed to be involved. The couple have been released from custody. The alleged responsibilities will be determined in court, respecting the presumption of innocence until a final sentence is reached.
