Cable theft at Fibercop power plant in Liberi: 34-year-old arrested

A 34-year-old man, residing in the Naples area, was placed under house arrest after being found inside the Fibercop power plant in Liberi, near Caserta, cutting and removing the electrical strips that power the network. The operation took place on the afternoon of October 3rd by Carabinieri officers from the Vitulazio station, following a targeted investigation launched after a similar incident occurred on September 28th in Bellona.

According to the reconstruction, the action could have resulted in the disruption of telephone lines and internet connections serving the entire municipality of Liberi, with potentially significant repercussions for residents and businesses in the area. The strips found inside the power plant contained precious metals, including palladium, platinum, gold, silver, and copper. The material was recovered and returned to the rightful owner following the completion of the investigation.

Following the raid, a Fibercop area manager filed a complaint with the Vitulazio Carabinieri station, quantifying the damage to the facility at approximately €100. Following the formal procedures, the 34-year-old was placed under house arrest at his home, pending a hearing. The force emphasizes its focus on thefts of metal and telecommunications infrastructure components, a phenomenon that can compromise the connectivity of entire communities.
