Caivano, a new emergency has arisen at the paint factory: a chemical reaction and fire have triggered an alarm due to fumes.

A new emergency has once again brought the spotlight to the Asi Pascarola industrial zone in Caivano. Around 11:00 PM last night, Carabinieri from the Caivano Company intervened at a company specializing in the production of paints and coatings, where an uncontrolled chemical reaction had occurred.

Of particular concern was the release of irritating fumes from a tank already under seizure. This situation required the intervention of the fire department, who were called to secure the area.

Flames tamed and tank inert

During the incident, a fire also broke out involving plastic material stored outside the silos. The flames were quickly extinguished by firefighters, while the affected tank was sealed and inertized to prevent further reactions and limit the risk of new emissions.

Following the operations, the plant was placed under seizure. The causes of the chemical reaction and subsequent release of irritants remain unclear. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

The Municipality has introduced extraordinary measures

In light of the emergency, the mayor of Caivano, Antonio Angelino, has signed an ordinance with a series of measures to protect the population.

The measure requires the immediate suspension of the company's manufacturing activities and the complete halt of all production cycles at companies located in the ASI area.

Other measures include the closure of the municipal cemetery, a ban on access to municipal parks, villas, and playgrounds, and a ban on outdoor sports.

Residents are also advised to wear FFP2 masks, keep windows closed, and turn off mechanical ventilation systems while awaiting further developments and assessments of any potential environmental impacts.

The precedent of September 15

The incident is particularly significant given what happened just a few weeks ago. On September 15th, a similar incident occurred at the same company, prompting the opening of an investigation by the Carabinieri and the seizure of the tank.

The new alert therefore refocuses attention on the safety conditions of the plant and the need to clarify the origin of the chemical reactions that occurred. Investigative and technical investigations will now determine what caused the new emergency and whether there are any connections to the previous incident.
