Capaccio – A former municipal councilor was shot and his car set on fire near the beach. This is what happened in the early hours of this morning, Monday, October 12, in the Foce Sele area of Capaccio-Paestum, in the province of Salerno. The incident remains to be fully reconstructed, and the Carabinieri are working to clarify the circumstances of the incident and identify any possible perpetrators.
According to an initial reconstruction, still being examined by investigators, the man was attacked and shot in the knee. Subsequently, someone set fire to his car, a small hatchback that was parked near a local beach resort.
It's currently unclear what preceded the injury, nor whether an argument broke out between the victim and her attacker. Investigators are trying to reconstruct the sequence of events, verifying every piece of evidence that could help understand the context in which the incident occurred.
The car fire required the intervention of firefighters, who extinguished the flames. The blaze also affected two wooden structures belonging to the nearby beach resort, making intervention necessary to prevent further damage.
The man, who previously served as a city councilor, was treated and taken to the hospital in Eboli. According to initial reports, his condition is not life-threatening: the knee injury was not life-threatening.
Carabinieri from the local station and the Agropoli Police Company responded to the scene, conducting investigations to reconstruct the incident. The motive, the identity of the shooter, and the possible connection between the injury and the car fire remain unclear. Investigations will determine whether the attack occurred during a heated argument or was related to other factors.
