A ignored stop sign, a breakneck speed through the city streets, and a desperate attempt to escape on foot through the fields. Thus ended the operation by Carabinieri officers from the Casal di Principe Mobile Radio Unit, who arrested a 37-year-old man of Albanian origin and recovered a large shipment of stolen pesticides, estimated to be worth approximately €7.000.
It all began during a patrol along Via Vaticale. Carabinieri officers ordered a Fiat Multipla with two people inside to stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver decided to accelerate sharply, resulting in a dangerous stampede into the town.
In an attempt to avoid the patrol, the driver performed highly risky maneuvers, even driving in the wrong direction, endangering the safety of motorists and pedestrians along the route.
The car's journey came to an abrupt end in a field adjacent to Khrushchev Street, where it became stuck. At that point, the two occupants attempted to escape, quickly exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot through the surrounding fields.
The Carabinieri immediately gave chase: after reaching the farmland, they managed to stop and immobilize the driver. The accomplice, however, managed to disappear by taking advantage of the vegetation and the darkness.
Inside the abandoned Fiat Multipla, the officers conducted an inspection that revealed numerous canisters of pesticides with a total value of approximately €7.000, believed to be stolen.
Following the standard investigation, the 37-year-old was arrested for resisting arrest and dangerous flight and remanded in custody on suspicion of receiving stolen goods. He was subsequently transferred to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison for judicial review.
It should be noted that the proceedings are currently in the preliminary investigation phase and that the suspect is presumed innocent until a final sentence is handed down.
