Naples: Alleged irregularities in the school principals competition: all acquitted

The Court of Naples fully acquitted all the defendants in the proceedings regarding the competition for school principals (2011-2014), rejecting the hypothesis of criminal conspiracy.

The First Section of the Court of Naples has fully acquitted all defendants in the trial regarding alleged irregularities in the competition for school principals held between 2011 and 2014. The acquittal was pronounced despite the statute of limitations having expired, bringing to a close a case that had been controversial for years.

The charges involved forgery related to exam procedures and a series of forgery and fraud involving the use of union permits. Investigators and the public prosecutor had alleged the existence of a criminal conspiracy aimed at influencing public competitions, a charge that was rejected by the Preliminary Hearing Judge.

It's a victory that defense lawyers described as providing much-needed clarity for those involved and their careers, often severely impacted by the investigation. Domenico Ciruzzi, representing defendants Maurizio Piscitelli and Giovanna Sommella, emphasized the positive impact the decision has on the defendants' honor: "Today we can look forward."

Ciruzzi also recalled the time gap between the beginning of the investigation (approximately fifteen years) and today's outcome, emphasizing the premature death of Inspector Maurizio Piscitelli.

The defense team consisted of a wide range of professionals, including Gennaro Tortora, Dario Gagliano, Elio D'Aquino, Andrea Castaldo, Eugenio Cricrì, Bruno Botti, Stefano Paparella, Salvatore Operetto, Claudio Botti, and Francesco Picca. The outcome of the trial marks the formal closure of a case that has generated multiple personal and professional repercussions for the defendants, but which is now being dismissed due to a complete lack of evidence of criminal responsibility.
