Yesterday morning, Five Star Regional Councilor Michele Cammarano went to the municipality of Battipaglia to meet Mayor Cecilia Francese and clarify the waste problem that became the subject of a question filed yesterday at the Campania regional council. The documentation brings to the attention of the Council the data that emerged from recent checks carried out by Arpac, at the request of the Municipality of Battipaglia.
“President De Luca should take action to carry out serious checks at the Stir of the municipality of Battipaglia. As can be seen from inspections carried out, the plant is now saturated and the report of the Arpac technicians provides a truly alarming picture. According to the reports, numerous irregularities and malfunctions have been highlighted that compromise its safety: there are leaky pipes, non-functioning filters, stored waste. According to the new waste plan, a new plant should be built in Battipaglia. In this question we ask the Regional Council to change the location of the new composting plant by identifying an area far from residential areas, to appoint a commission of external experts to monitor the operation and safety of both the Battipaglia Stir and the Eboli composting plant, and also to start and complete the remediation of the territory as established in several official documents, to verify the real economic efficiency of the Battipaglia Stir by evaluating – if it is found that in order to maintain efficiency and economic productivity it receives waste from other areas – its dismantling or downsizing. On the disposal of eco-bales and waste management – adds Cammarano – the 5 Star Movement has long insisted on a real solution to the problems”.
