“These have been very hard years, it still doesn’t seem possible that the word ‘convicted’ was pronounced: the sentence is a page of history, a sentence that none of us could have imagined six years ago. This is the moment in which we can say goodbye to Stefano, let him go and process the mourning. Realize that he is no longer here and will not return”. Stefano Cucchi’s sister, Ilaria, said this on “Circo Massimo” on Radio Capital. “I believe that yesterday’s photo”, the carabiniere’s hand kiss in court, “that emotional moment, was significant and represents what we have always said: Stefano’s death and what happened afterwards, the cover-ups, the legal battles, have been damaging not only to Stefano’s family, but to all citizens, to the institutions and to the Carabinieri, which cannot be compared to those two people convicted yesterday”. For Ilaria Cucchi “the trial that will begin in December on the cover-ups, which cost all of us a great price, will be equally important. At this moment my thoughts also go to all the other families who have suffered a similar fate to ours and have not made it. These battles are very difficult: very often these cases end with a filing and they are difficult even outside the courtrooms", he concluded.
