Intense situation at the Cotugno Hospital in Naples due to the new wave of covid19 infections in the city and province.
The Neapolitan hospital specializing in infectious diseases is resisting the third wave that is crowding almost all the beds again, especially the ordinary wards, and there is also greater crowding in the 50 sub-intensive care beds, not all full, compared to the last few weeks. In intensive care, the approximately 30 available beds are not full. Also at the Cardarelli Hospital, the number of patients is increasing, with crowding in the Covid-19 intensive care unit where at midday only two of the 15 available beds were free. In the entire facility, 131 medium and high complexity Covid patients are hospitalized, also due to the existence of previous pathologies that, associated with Covid, make the management of the patient more complex.
Compared to the previous phase, the 25-55 age group now seems to be more exposed. Perhaps due to the effect of the variants but also due to the effect of the vaccination that has provided coverage to RSA patients and many over 80s. The tent structure is currently still intended for vaccines, given that there are still around 400 staff units (direct and indirect) to complete. However, a document from the general management has already been defined that allows, if necessary, to make the tent structure available in a few days to decompress the emergency room, even if this need does not exist at the moment. The influx of emergency rooms (covid and non-covid patients) is stable at 130 daily visits. Less than the peaks of the non-Covid era, but not a small amount in relation to the pandemic crisis.
