Cold Case of Camorra in Caserta: after 19 years a new order arrives for the boss Michele Zagaria and three affiliates.
This morning, at the prisons of Sassari, Tolmezzo and Viterbo, Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Caserta have executed a precautionary custody order, issued by the Court of Review of Naples, following an appeal by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Naples, against 4 people seriously suspected, to varying degrees, of mafia-type association (Casalesi Clan-Zagaria faction) and of the murder of Raffaele Lubrano, born in 1959, alias "Lello", son of the clan leader Vincenzo, committed in Pignataro Maggiore.

On the evening of 14 November 2002 the victim, after leaving his studio in Via Vittorio Veneto, while traveling along the aforementioned road in a Toyota Land Cruiser, headed towards the peripheral area, was first overtaken by an Alfa Romeo 164 and then blocked near the Bar Giordano, where the Killers began to explode several shots. Lubrano, in a desperate attempt to escape the ambush, managed to reverse his march, attempting to escape in the direction of the town centre. The homicidal commando then set out in pursuit, exploding numerous shots along the entire route up to Via Latina, where the killers reached and finished off Lubrano who, in the meantime, after having hit the wall of a house with his off-road vehicle , had made a desperate attempt to escape on foot. Once the heinous crime was completed, the perpetrators disappeared in the direction of Pastorano, abandoning the Alfa Romeo 164, which was found stolen in Aversa on 12 November 2002, in the locality of Arianova where it was subsequently found burnt with the weapons used shortly before inside. .
The investigations made it possible to ascertain how the murder in question arose following the expansionist aims of the Casalesi clan on a portion of territory where an indigenous criminal association, the Lubrano-Ligato-Abbate clan, operated. This, over time, had often led to friction, followed by strategic truces, at the culmination of which the Camorra summit of Casal di Principe had prevailed, dictating its own rules, imposing the presence of their lieutenants and forcing "the villagers" to settle of the management of criminal activities of lesser relevance and profitability.
The restrictive measures constitute the epilogue of a complex investigative activity coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples - District Anti-Mafia Directorate, started in 2019 which made it possible to ascertain the involvement of the under-noted subjects, leading exponents of the Casalesi clan, believed responsible, in various capacities, for the murder in question:
ZAGARIA Michele, born in San Cipriano d'Aversa (CE) on 21/05/1958 and CATERINO Giuseppe, born in San Cipriano d'Aversa (CE) on 19.01.1954, respectively detained in the prisons of Sassari and Viterbo, which principals;
NOBIS Salvatore, born in San Cipriano d'Aversa (CE) on 10.11.1959 and SANTAMARIA Antonio born in Cancello ed Arnone (CE) on 29.12.1975, respectively detained in the prisons of Tolmezzo and Viterbo, played a role as basemen with the task of following the victim during his movements (so-called mirror workers).
As part of the same investigative activity, in 2020, a similar restrictive measure was issued against another associate: Francesco Schiavone, born in 1953, alias "Cicciariello", namesake and cousin of the clan leader Francesco Schiavone, alias "Sandokan".
