Regi Lagni: canals blocked by waste. Waste of all kinds found along the banks.
The investigation lasted more than a year and was carried out by the military of the station police Marigliano forestry with the assistance of the local police personnel of the municipality of Marigliano and personnel of the “area nolana” development agency equipped with a drone.
From January 2020 to May 2021 they were monitored various particularly critical points at an environmental level in the municipality of Marigliano and in particular they have been three riverbeds of the hydrographic network identified of the Royal Lagni which over time have become real illegal landfills.
Placed under the magnifying glass in Marigliano are the riverbeds located in via Sentino, in the Ponte dei cani area and in the Tre Torri area on the border with the municipality of Acerra.
The checks involved about a kilometre of Regi Lagni and the scene turned out to be rather critical in the eyes of the investigators: real illegal landfills with waste of all kinds now wrapped in spontaneous and invasive vegetation.
Identified plastic waste, pesticide containers, burnt waste, car carcasses, mechanical parts of cars, buried big bags, animal carcasses, agricultural and urban waste, metal drums and cans.
All waste found in the riverbeds prevented the normal flow of water causing small floods and pollution of the surrounding environment and in particular of the cultivated fields parallel to the canals.
During the investigations, the ASL was also involved, committed to evaluating the degree of contamination of agricultural products grown near the canals. GORI staff (water service management) also intervened, which checked about 2 km of sewers to identify illegal connections for the discharge of waste water into the canals.
