"It is a bad moment for me and for the entire island community. We are deeply saddened and truly shocked by what happened this morning. The investigations and technical checks will ascertain the facts. Now is the time for grief. Any other statement risks becoming superfluous."
Thus the mayor of Capri, Marino Lembo, on behalf of the entire Administration, the City Council and the entire community of the island, expresses deep condolences for the death of the driver of the minibus that crashed this morning near Marina Grande.
“I feel, however – he adds Edge – to express our dutiful applause to the rescue machine that was immediate and efficient. We embrace the family of the young driver, who met a sad fate in the performance of his job, and we are close to the injured to whom we wish a speedy recovery.
We are in constant contact with the hospitals where the most serious patients have been admitted to have updates on their conditions and we provide the necessary assistance to those hospitalized in Capri and to their families".
"We will do everything we can, as a Municipality - concludes the mayor - to express our closeness to the family of the young driver who died, esteemed and well-liked by all. At the moment, as a sign of respect, we have suspended all the events scheduled for today".
Regarding the serious accident that occurred today on the island of Capri, the ASL Napoli 1 Centro reports that the final number of people rescued is 24 (1 deceased, 23 injured). The 15 patients who are being transferred to the city of Naples (10 have already been transferred) are being hosted in a dedicated area of the Ospedale del Mare, with the exception of two pediatric patients who have already been transferred to the Santobono Hospital.
The 8 patients with less serious problems, despite being assessed for admission for observation following the accident, refused it.
The management of healthcare was guaranteed through the Regional Emergency Service 118 Naples 1 and in synergy with local institutions and "with the great commitment of all the professionals who worked with the 118 Naples 1 Service" reports the ASL Naples, at the Capilupi Hospital and the Ospedale del Mare "to whom we extend heartfelt thanks for their prompt availability and the competence demonstrated in the operational field".
