M5S, Muscarà: “Nobody wants Agrimonda waste, carcinogenic levels too high”
Sopralluogo of the secretary of the Regional Environment Commission at the site of the former pesticide factory: "Continuous fumes that burn the throat, here we have been living for 26 years on an ecological bomb"
M5s Muscarà
“Nobody wants the poisons of Agrimonda. 26 years after the fire that destroyed the pesticide production factory, the inhabitants of the municipalities of Marigliano and Mariglianella are still forced to live on an ecological bomb, breathing miasmas and stench that with the summer heat become more unbearable every day. Despite the battles fought in recent years in the Regional Council and the safety measures put in place to protect residents, Agrimonda remains the image of one of the most serious environmental disasters in Campania with which hundreds have been living for decades.

According to the hypothesis of the president of the association Doctors for the Environment Antonio Marfella, the removal of the dangerous materials still present in the subsoil is being slowed down by the refusal of other regions to accept them in their sites due to the very serious carcinogens that have been certified”. This was declared by the regional councilor of the 5 Star Movement and secretary of the Regional Environment Commission Maria Muscarà, at the conclusion of an inspection of the site that hosted the former pesticide factory.

"To make matters worse," continued Muscarà, "the detachment of the sheet mounted in recent months to waterproof the ground has spread a stench into the air that still burns the throat and forces residents to live holed up in their homes. I will continue to fight for the Campania Region, with Arpac, to resume monitoring of pollution levels and its effects on the health of residents. We need to find a solution as soon as possible and implement it. We cannot allow that while the doctor, for 26 years, has been studying the cure, the patient is already dead."
