Coca-Cola confirms its position as the leading company in the soft drinks and beverages sector in Italy in terms of economic and employment impact also in 2020.
This is what emerges from the study conducted by SDA Bocconi School of Management that analyzed the socio-economic value of Coca-Cola in the country, with a specific focus on Campania, a region where it is present with the Marcianise (CE) plant and the local sales force.
Starting from the facts, the study tells and frames the commitment of the women and men who make Coca-Cola “a de facto Campania” every day: adding salaries, supply contracts, taxes and tax contributions paid, the resources generated by Coca-Cola in Campania and destined for families, businesses and the State are 31 million euros (equal to 0,06% of the regional GDP) and over 1.200 jobs created directly and through its related industries. A result that is not to be taken for granted, in the difficult period that the country has gone through, aggravated by the closures of the Horeca channel that have generated a negative impact on the entire supply chain. The Bocconi study also shows that if the presence of Coca-Cola were to disappear, in addition to eliminating the economic impact, there would be important consequences at the employment level: the growth of the unemployment rate would in fact register +0,3% in Campania.
“Campania is the productive heart of Coca-Cola in Southern Italy, which has been operating for over 50 years through the Marcianise plant. Here, over the years, a solid bond has developed, built day by day with the people and businesses of the area, making us an integral part of the community. We are therefore proud to continue to represent a value for the region and for its economic and employment growth” declares Giangiacomo Pierini, Public Affairs & Communication Director of Coca-Cola HBC Italia.
The impact of Covid and support for families and HO.RE.CA.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a strong economic impact on every link in the supply chain linked to the sector, with a contraction of Coca-Cola's resources allocated to businesses equal to 4,3 million euros. Despite this, Coca-Cola has distributed 0,7 million euros of additional resources to families and has remained alongside bars and restaurants in Italy, reinvesting over 2,5 million euros in the Horeca channel in commercial and fiscal policies and dedicated communication activities.
The Marcianise plant
Inaugurated in 1974, the Marcianise plant is the company's largest production site in Southern Italy with 3 production lines and over 210.000.000 litres produced annually.
The main investments in recent years have included the installation of a high-speed line producing 120.000 cans per hour, the activation of a photovoltaic system and the installation of new, latest-generation machinery for direct bottle blowing.
The plant also has a cogeneration plant, inaugurated in 2016, to produce energy, heat and chilled water, which allows for a reduction in emissions and an increase in energy efficiency.
