Milan. Two workers died in a nitrogen deposition of the Humanitas hospital headquarters in Pieve Emanuele in the Milan area.
The two, workers of an external company, died due to frostbite. The prosecutor's office of Milan has opened an investigation into the death of the two external workers. From the initial investigations of the local police and Carabinieri it appears that the victims, aged 42 and 46, of the 'Sol Group spa' based in Monza, and were of Italian and Indian origin, died due to a gas leak while they were supplying nitrogen to the hospital.
The investigators of the judicial police team of the VI department of the prosecution, delegated by the pm on duty Francesca Gentilini and by the adjunct Tiziana Siciliano, to carry out an inspection of the area.
The Emergency Company of Lombardy explained that “death was probably caused by nitrogen poisoning”. According to an initial reconstruction made by the firefighters, it seems that the victims were filling a tank with liquid nitrogen when, for reasons still being investigated, there was a "leak" that hit them.
This morning the 118 intervened on site around 11.25 but the first to be able to enter the warehouse, with the necessary equipment, were the firefighters of the Provincial Command of Milan precisely because of the presence of gas that seemed to have saturated the premises. Despite the speed of the intervention, there was nothing that could be done for the two workers.
The two workers aged 42 and 46 had arrived with a van to Humanitas and were working in the warehouse. The on-duty prosecutor Francesca Gentilini was informed of the deaths and immediately alerted the 'environment, health, safety, work' department led by deputy Tiziana Siciliano. The department is investigating with the hypothesis of manslaughter. In addition to 118, firefighters, Carabinieri and local police, the 'specialized' judicial police team was sent to the scene, as well as a doctor from the ATS.
