Roma. Blitz of the police forces, in the occupied houses of Tor Bella Monaca: the home of Camorra boss Giuseppe Moccia was also cleared.
The neighborhood boss didn't pay rent but hid around 30 thousand euros in cash and drugs in his house.
Eight people reported and about twenty people identified: this is the result of the operation to restore legality carried out in the eastern neighborhood of Rome this morning.
The first target of the operation was Giuseppe Moccia himself. The Carabinieri arrived at the home of the Tor Bella Monaca boss at 6 in the morning, before the clearing operations began - coordinated by the Prefecture, in which the police and Carabinieri participated, as well as the local police of Rome Capitale - of the five apartments illegally occupied at number 50 of via Santa Rita da Cascia, owned by the Territorial Agency for Public Residential Building.
Giuseppe Moccia and his wife lived in one of the illegally occupied Ater apartments in Tower 50 of Tor Bella Monaca. Years ago they were the assignees of the Ater apartment but following a series of crimes they then became illegal.
The area affected by this morning's evictions, according to investigators, had become the headquarters of the boss Giuseppe Moccia, at the center of a war between gangs for the management of drug dealing areas. The latest episode dates back to last week in the nearby Via dell'Archeologia where two young drug dealers were wounded by gunshots.
Moccia himself, believed to be the head of a criminal group, was shot in the legs last March immediately after being released from prison. Moccia, author, among other things, of the threats to the activist Tiziana Ronzio, who is involved with her association “Tor piu' bella” in the social redevelopment of the neighborhood, was reported this morning for drug dealing. In the illegally occupied house, in addition to the money, some doses of hashish and packaging material were found; the money and drugs were seized by the Carabinieri.
The praise for the police forces for the 'restoration of legality' also came from the Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese, who thanked the prefect of Rome and the police forces "for an action of restoring legality that strengthens the presence of the State in an urban area with a strong criminal presence, allowing the housing to be returned to its rightful assignees".
And on Facebook, Mayor Virginia Raggi wrote: “We cannot allow those who have no right to live inside public housing. This is why this morning's operation was fundamental. In Tor Bella Monaca, one hundred men from the Local Police together with other law enforcement agencies cleared out some Ater apartments that were illegally occupied. A member of the Moccia clan and his wife were also reportedly found inside. Now the apartments will be returned to their rightful assignees, as is right. The fight to restore legality must continue, always #ATestaAlta. Thanks to the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese, the prefect of Rome Matteo Piantedosi, the law enforcement agencies and all those who are working on this operation”.
Also on the same wavelength was the governor of Lazio, Nicola Zingaretti, who reiterated the commitment of the Region together with Ater to invest "millions of euros to redo the towers and improve the quality of life". "Today - he added - an important point is marked in defense of Rome that defends legality. Now those apartments will go to those who have the right to them. Our intervention is based on the investment of millions for the quality of life and to give the houses we are redoing to those who have the right and not to those who have arrogantly appropriated them".
