In Angri, 3.5 tons of illegal firecrackers were seized. The Nocera Inferiore Finance Police identified a woman from Scafati who, with the help of her son, was preparing for a New Year's Eve with a "bang".
During product safety checks, the Guardia di Finanza of Salerno seized more than 3 tons of non-compliant fireworks.
After a preliminary stakeout, the soldiers went to Angri to inspect a dilapidated building used as a warehouse where they knew for certain that the two were present.
Inside the warehouse – which also lacked the minimum safety requirements and any authorization for the storage of that material – over 4.000 fireworks and various devices of different sizes were found, including “sticks” and “paper bombs” of Asian origin, handcrafted and even combined together to have a stronger explosive effect.
The Guardia di Finanza immediately proceeded to seize the illegal “firecrackers”, a total of 4.215 artefacts distributed among approximately 300 packages, which, once put on sale, would have brought in approximately 200.000 euros.
The goods were then transferred to an authorized warehouse, awaiting the technical assessment by the bomb disposal experts of the Salerno Police Headquarters, who will determine the danger index.
The woman, who declared herself the only person responsible for the incident, was reported for violating public safety regulations and risks up to three years in prison, in addition to a fine of up to 100 thousand euros.
