Maresca: “Not a simple arson raid in the Villa Comunale by a gang of kids, but the “longa manus” of the Camorra who would have acted with yet another episode to distract the police and investigators from their illicit business”.
Thus in a note Catello Maresca, minority councilor in the City Council of Naples, who asked himself: "Coincidence or strategy? It is a question that, in my experience, it would be good to start asking. The warning signs are many and all convergent. More or less coincidental events, the theft of kilometers of copper from the Galleria Vittoria, that of the tree in the City Council building, up to the fire - now it seems established of a malicious nature - of the Villa Comunale last night.
These are just the latest episodes of a growing criminal aggression that is clearly perceived in the city". For the leader of the centre-right opposition, "the fire on Monday evening in Villa Comunale - following the raid of the stolen Christmas tree from the institutional headquarters in via Verdi a few days ago - would therefore fit into a much more worrying picture.
It seems very likely that, as often happened in the past, small-time criminals, baby gangs or small-time delinquents, are being used to create confusion. And we know that when attention is focused on sensational facts, those who have an interest in acting undisturbed on other fronts, manage to do so with greater ease and often get away with it”.
For Maresca: "The hypothesis of a criminal strategy to create a ruckus to distract public opinion and, perhaps, the police and the judiciary from more serious issues appears very realistic. I have never been a conspiracy theorist, but only a realist and today we need to be more realist than the king.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a resurgence of violent criminal acts and a return to gang warfare in the coming months. I don't imagine the coming months will be particularly peaceful." Maresca added: "We must immediately ask ourselves who is behind this strategy and who might be interested in having a free hand for their shady business.
A concern arises spontaneously in me: it is called the PNRR and it concerns the river of money that will arrive and will have to be spent. So let's not fall into the error of thinking that we are facing isolated events, perhaps only the result of widespread social unease and ends in themselves. This is a damned serious issue of security, for which we cannot be found unprepared".
Hence the solution for Maresca: "To counter a system, the criminal one, you need strategy, you need to organize and put institutional synergies into play. We are ready to take the field, as always with courage and determination".
