PALERMO. “The new tariff nomenclature, which the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, is preparing to launch, if adopted, will lead to the destruction of the entire sector of clinical pathology”.
This was stated in a note by Dr. Pietro Miraglia, vice president of the National Order of Biologists, in his role as regional secretary, for Sicily, of Federbiologi, the National Union of Freelance Biologists, who, together with Anisap, in recent days, warned the Ministry of Health against proceeding with the publication of the new nomenclature "without the prior participation, in the work, of the associations and professional orders".
The device, in fact, according to Miraglia "fears cuts in the order of 30% on average and, in perspective, even greater, compared to the current remuneration for laboratory diagnostic services. This poses the paradox that the expenses incurred for the purchase of reagents are higher than the reimbursements recognized! In short: a real condemnation to closure for almost all of the private structures in agreement".
For the vice president of the ONB "the hope is that this price list, which I do not hesitate to define as a 'noose', among other things drawn up without any discussion table with trade associations and professional orders, will soon be corrected or, better yet, cancelled. In fact, the jobs of thousands of healthcare professionals are at stake". Hence the appeal launched by Miraglia "to all regional presidents to veto the adoption of a device that, if published, will bankrupt a good part of the analysis laboratory structures, especially in Southern Italy".
“For our part – concludes Miraglia – as Federbiologi and Anisap, we are ready to file a complaint with the Rome public prosecutor's office against the Ministry for the imposition of tariffs that are not even able to cover the expenses”.
