Alpini, hundreds of girls report harassment in Rimini. Many young women have told their bad experiences
The Alpine gathering, which for three days filled Rimini and the Romagna Riviera with over 400 thousand people, leaves behind a very unedifying aftermath.
The Rimini group Non Una di Meno, which has been fighting against gender violence for years, reports the sexual harassment they have received. Many young women have recounted their experiences of whistles, shouts, obscene proposals, received from those who in some cases have also reached out with their hands.
The victims are often barmaids and waitresses, in some cases young or very young, employed these days in bars and restaurants.
“We have started to collect and share their testimonies and the response is very high. – writes Not one less – as shocking as the number and intensity received. Whistles, cat-calling, threats and outright harassment have hit several people guilty only of wanting to live their own city. harassment disguised as joviality and tradition that in reality are the offspring of a patriarchal culture that wants women, trans people and gender non-conformists subjected to power and fear, blackmail and threats in case of refusal”.
The National Alpine Association has released a note which has condemned and stigmatized this episode, but underlines that, after the appropriate investigations, it appears that no complaint has been filed.
“Between yesterday and today – says a barmaid – what I suffered from the Alpine troops is demeaning for any woman. An Alpine trooper tried to lick my mouth while I was taking an order at the table. One mimed a sexual act while I turned to clear the table”.
