There will be 15 works in competition for the short film section of the twentieth edition of theIschia Film Festival, scheduled from June 25th to July 2nd at the Aragonese Castle.
Among Italian and international previews, the selected films will offer “a journey through local identities at every latitude of the globe, demonstrating how cinema, even when the chosen format is the short one, is able to convey the atmosphere of places and the specificity of distant countries and regions” as Michelangelo Messina, artistic director of the festival, underlines.
“Before Heaven” (international premiere) by Ahmad Heydarian for example, is a tribute to all Palestinian children put to the test by the Israeli occupation, their fears through the “killed drawings” depicted on the walls of their homes. On the trail of the myth of Ulysses, life and theater merge in “Calypso”, shot entirely between Napoli and Cuma while “I'm Lina”, presented in Ischia as an absolute preview, tells the drama of a Syrian girl who escaped from the war, but not from its ghosts.
Also competing at the Ischia Film Festival will be “Maestrale”, winner of the David di Donatello 2022 for best short film by Nico Bonomolo, a black and white animation work about a man who, through the sea and travel, dreams of changing his life. Coming from Russia is “Off the air”, another international premiere: a widowed former pilot tries to forget his pain, picking up radio signals in a remote village on Lake Baikal.
A short documentary with an anthropological focus, “Rimani Wasa: Home of the stories”, an international premiere, which shines a spotlight on a Peruvian population from the highlands, through the story of a Quechua radio host.
