Ciarambino: “Oncology patients cannot be diverted to the A&E department of Cardarelli”
The vice-president of the regional council: “Disregard for the provision that provides for the care of cancer patients by the facility that is treating them”
“Among the hundreds of patients seeking assistance and care that we have seen crowding the Cardarelli emergency room, dramatic images that have gone around Italy, we cannot allow there to also be patients suffering from oncological pathologies.
It is unthinkable that, for any kind of complication, even following chemotherapy, or to undergo a transfusion, a cancer patient should find himself living an odyssey of exhausting waits that risk worsening the conditions of a state of health already compromised by a serious pathology".
This was reported by the vice-president of the Campania Regional Council and regional group leader of the M5S Valeria Ciarambino, according to whom “a regional provision has been disregarded, which follows a note signed by me sent in recent months, which provided for direct access to the Pascale for patients already being treated at that facility, in the event of complications or emergencies.
The Region must take action with all means and measures, so that cancer patients can access the facilities where they are already in charge, starting with the Pascale hospital, so as to contribute on the one hand to reducing the load of accesses to the already overcrowded Emergency Room, and on the other to guarantee an adequate quality of care for patients already struggling with precarious health conditions".
