After the latest episode of “bad movida” which occurred in Caserta, or the fight between some teenage girls that occurred late Saturday evening in the square in front of the Bourbon Palace, the Mayor's advisor for security in Caserta, Colonel Gianfranco Paglia, resigns. He had been strongly supported by Mayor Carlo Marino after his re-election last fall and in the wake of what happened at the end of summer 2021 with the killing of 18-year-old Gennaro Leone in the streets of the movida at the hands of a peer.
Paglia explains his decision with an open letter in which he admits to having disappointed "the expectations of the citizens of Caserta and for this I apologize to the entire city"; but from the words used it is clear that the disappointment concerns the attitude of the various parties that make up the table on movida, and the lack of a real will towards a concrete solution to the problem.
"I can no longer preside over a table - he writes - in which some of its members no longer believe. Since February I have asked the trade associations to distance themselves from the premises that do not respect the rules, starting from the sale of alcohol to minors, to the occupation of public land without permits, to noise pollution. Nothing has been done perhaps because the fees of their members are too precious".
“I had asked in February that the ZTL should be activated in San Leucio and Vaccheria by June,” Paglia continues in the letter, “the vision of the few cameras in Caserta should have been diverted to the operations room of the police headquarters as requested by the Police Chief.
Also in February I had asked to review the various medical certificates of local police personnel that prevented them from providing external services, to evaluate the possibility of removing any allowances for personnel who only work in the office, and to increase overtime for those who work externally at night.
Given the rift that has arisen within the municipal police, I had asked to evaluate the replacement of the current Commander. The list of things that should have been done in time is long, but what hurts the most is seeing the locals who do not respect the rules without receiving any type of control, thanks to their friendships.
In spite of several places in the historic center that, despite everything, trusted me and accepted new rules and it is to them that my thanks go. I apologize to the inhabitants of the historic center because I was unable to give them the opportunity to live and sleep with dignity. The times of the administrations are different from mine but I believe, as demonstrated by General Figliuolo in the time of Covid, that if you have the will to do, the times are quickly reset. Whose responsibility is it? It is not up to me to say but I certainly will not be an accomplice to any other episodes of violent movida ".
