Castel VolturnoThe meeting between the citizens and the mayor of Castel Volturno Luigi Petrella and the councillor for ecology Pasquale Marrandino, organised on the Noviello beach by the Observatory, ended with nothing achieved and amid much controversy. The exasperated residents asked the mayor for information on the opening of the bridge, on the construction of the erosion barrier, on waste management, on the dangerous lack of public lighting and on the road and sewer works never carried out, without receiving any concrete answer. Petrella in fact mentioned a possible but not certain reopening of the bridge, which "maybe will happen in December", and unloaded on the Campania Region the reasons for the inertia of the administration, which has been waiting for years for funds to carry out the activities on the territory.
Also present at the debate was PD councilor Peppe Scialla, who spoke in defense of the Campania Region, accused by Mayor Petrella of hindering interventions related to the reef and those already planned for years.
"The mayor came to tell lies to the citizens, blaming other institutions for the delays in the construction of some fundamental works such as the reconstruction of the sewers and the reefs to protect the Coast. In reality for these works, - Scialla specifies - after 3 years of Petrella's administration, the executive projects are missing and have not yet been drawn up and therefore the Region does not finance works that cannot be built.
The mayor has never explained to the citizens why he had the bridge over the Volturno seized, even though he had the executive projects, the tender procedures ready and the money financed by the Region in the municipality's current account already on the day of his election. He lost over a year without putting out the tender and the judiciary intervened with the seizure, causing enormous inconvenience to the population of Destra Volturno and Bagnara".
Immediately after the meeting, the President of the Comitato Città Domitia, which has been collecting complaints from the citizens of Castellana for some time, declared: "The mayor has been repeating the same things for three years without taking action, the only new thing this year was the money spent on the festival in the historic center. In this case, there was financial availability, while for the basic services of the citizens of the suburbs there was not, as demonstrated by the disastrous situation of Destra Volturno.
It is ridiculous that he continues to repeat that he does not have the funds and that he has already done everything he could do, when during the election campaign he promised the exact opposite and the resolution of the problems related to waste, roads, sewers, public lighting and erosion, which is taking away entire pieces of territory. It is understandable that citizens are disappointed and angry, especially those in the suburbs, where Petrella collected more votes with false promises”.
