Angelo Vassallo Sindaco Pescatore National Award. Third edition of the poetry and unpublished literature competition inspired by the principles and figure of the Sindaco Pescatore.
transmitting the values and principles of Angelo Vassallo to future generations: this is the leitmotif that inspires the Angelo Vassallo Mayor Fisherman National Award.
Once again, Italian students are called to confront the figure and moral legacy of the mayor of Pollica, recognized among the innocent victims of the mafia, whose assassination is, to this day, still unpunished. His futuristic ideas of environmentalism, transparent administration, sustainability, legality and cultural heritage, however, survive and live again through dialogue with the school and civil society.
The “Angelo Vassallo Sindaco Pescatore” Foundation and the “Battiti di pesca” Association announce the fourth edition of the “Angelo Vassallo Sindaco Pescatore National Award”.
This competition aims to promote a reflection on the commitment, ability and foresight of the Mayor of Pollica Angelo Vassallo, killed in the vile attack of September 5, 2010. The project aims to sensitize all citizens to a critical and proactive reflection on the work of a man of the State who gave a concrete contribution to the diffusion of the principles of democratic citizenship for the well-being of the community and the State.
SCHOOL SECTION
Two themes are proposed for this edition. For the poetry and narrative section of the schools category, the chosen theme is “School will save us”, taken from the book of the same name by Dacia Maraini, published by Solferino editore 2021, opens up to a series of reflections that involve not only the world of school but society as a whole.
“And if school makes us aware and responsible, ready to intelligently face any crisis, whether spiritual or social”, as the author explains, from it and with it we can trace a better path to give our country hope for the future, bringing attention once again to the importance of culture for collective well-being.
Angelo Vassallo had fully understood how any path can be paved only with the use of culture, a culture also made of respect for others, for institutions, for the environment.
"This is not the first time we have collaborated with schools. Through the Angelo Vassallo Award we are consolidating our ties with young people, we are entering the hearts and minds of young male and female students to have them tell us that another idea of a country and society exists and is possible", underlines Dario Vassallo, President of the Foundation.
ADULT SECTION
Culture is first of all "knowing how to enhance and preserve local culture, a treasure chest of small and large stories". The transition is almost natural, intertwined, almost linked by a common denominator that is the theme of the poetry section of the adult category, “It is the countries that make the country: the real wealth is the place where you live”, (quote from Mayor Pescatore).
“Angelo is a man who, with his multifaceted interest in life, has revealed an inseparable bond between Man and Nature, Culture and Innovation – says Fausta Altavilla, teacher and creator of the literary competition – The Award aims precisely to remember, to make people reflect, to act, to build".
Dacia Maraini and Angelo Vassallo, each in their own sphere, through the work of cultural construction and contamination of consciences, thus become icons and authentic witnesses of the profound value of life, understood in its most authentic and solid sense.
The Angelo Vassallo Foundation has been working for years to ensure that these messages become increasingly firm and decisive awareness and this Award constitutes that strong bond that the Foundation has created with the entire world of schools and with the institutions that support these ideals.
