In the foyer of the Cineteatro “Eduardo De Filippo” in Agropoli, tomorrow, Wednesday 4 January, at 17.30:XNUMX pm, the Matteo and Claudina de Stefano Foundation of Ogliastro will inaugurate the new year by presenting the volume “A lesson from the long-lived. A research on the elderly of Cilento” published by Franco Angeli.
Together with the author, Patrizia Del Verme, psychologist and psychotherapist, as well as coordinator of the Agropoli listening center, with the introduction entrusted to Angela Riccio, vice president of the De Stefano Foundation, in conversation there will be Franco Alfieri, president of the Province of Salerno, Roberto Mutalipassi, mayor of Agropoli, Franco Crispino, municipal councilor with responsibility for Culture, Don Bruno Lancuba, parish priest of the Parish of S. Maria delle Grazie, coordinated by Alfonso Sarno, journalist of Il Mattino.
A choral dialogue that becomes the occasion to celebrate, once again, the Mediterranean Diet on the twelfth anniversary of its recognition as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Not just a book, but a look at the culture of an entire territory, with its own values and traditions. The research, the subject of this manual, in particular, has investigated the reasons that can explain the presence in Cilento of such a high percentage of long-lived people: 30 centenarians for every hundred thousand inhabitants, more than double that in the rest of Italy and Europe.
This geographical area could, therefore, be a candidate to enter the list of "blue zones" - like Ogliastra in Sardinia or the island of Icaria in Greece - where people live longer than average. Great attention has been given to the lifestyle and the Mediterranean Diet, an expression coined by Ancel Keys and understood in the broadest sense of "lifestyle", which also includes food, but which is not limited to its consumption.
With a holistic vision of man and a particular attention to the impact that the psychological and social components have on his state of health and well-being, the author provides a clear photograph of the long-lived people of Cilento: the environment in which they live, the way they eat, sleep, behave, think, get excited and relate to others, but also their life purposes, their attitude towards food, time and existence.
In announcing the patronage of the province for all the activities that will be carried out in 2023 by the De Stefano Foundation, Franco Alfieri also added: “We thought of entrusting it with a significant role in the coordination of welfare policies throughout the province.” An acknowledgement of the commitment of the foundation that, since 1985, has been operating in the territory, as also underlined by the mayor of Agropoli, Roberto Mutalipassi: “Convinced of the importance of youth policies and appreciating the work done by the listening desk, my presence wants to signify how much attention is paid to the solidarity activities of the foundation in particular, with the hope that it can further strengthen in supporting young people, also in coordination with schools”.
As vice-president of the Foundation, Angela Riccio thanked Alfieri, former mayor of Agropoli, who, twelve years ago, firmly promoted the opening of the listening center in Agropoli, hoping that the current mayor Mutalipassi will continue to support him: “So that the New Year may bring new projects useful for the growth of our territory, with the commitment of new and renewed energies, always in support of the weakest groups". Free admission. Patrizia Del Verme, psychologist and psychotherapist with a psychoanalytic orientation, is currently responsible for the Clinical and Health Psychology Service of the Capaccio Health District - ASLSA. She is the author of various articles and publications in the psychological field, speaker at training courses and conferences, and host of experiential seminars.
