The episode was discovered this morning when municipal employees arrived. According to initial reconstructions, one or more thieves forced open an entrance door and entered the ground floor premises that house the registry office.
Once inside, they headed toward the office where the safe, which was stolen, is kept. “Too bad for them that they won’t find anything inside,” said the mayor of Ercolano Ciro Buonajuto, explaining that the safe contained nothing “because just yesterday the periodic payment of the cash collected for the release of the documents had been made.”
Mayor Buonajuto: “Shameful gesture”
The Carabinieri of the Ercolano branch are investigating the incident. Buonajuto, who is also vice president of the Anci, speaks of a “shameful” gesture that “offends our entire community.
I am sure that the police will identify those responsible for this vile act. There is no room and no future for these criminals in the city. Beyond the damage to the structure - Buonajuto continues - what happened really leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
Every day we carry on our battle against every form of illegality, we continue to explain that vandalizing a public good means taking away an opportunity for the future of our city.
We are human, we give it our all, but here we really have to fight against everyone and everything, including the alleged investigators who will now comment, comfortably seated on the sofa, what would have been better to do and what measure to implement. This battle cannot be won with distinctions, but only all together.
Those who point fingers, those who judge, but a minute later turn away become accomplices. We will not give up, because we will never hand over the future of Ercolano to these criminals,” concludes the mayor.
