The University of Naples Federico II celebrates the centenary of Pier Paolo Pasolini.
On Wednesday 18 January 2023, at 11 am, in the Piovani Hall of the Department of Humanistic Studies, in via Porta di Massa 1, a sound installation will be inaugurated that focuses on the voice of the writer, director and essayist, one of the greatest intellectuals of the Italian twentieth century.
'Comizi – Per Pier Paolo Pasolini', this is the project conceived by the Department of Humanistic Studies and the result of collaboration with the Department of Architecture.
Academic and city authorities will participate in the inauguration. The rector of the Federico II University, Matteo Lorito, the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, the Director of the Department of Humanities, Andrea Mazzucchi, and the Director of the Department of Architecture, Michelangelo Russo, will be present. Professors Giuseppe Andrea Liberti, Department of Humanities, and Massimo Perriccioli, Department of Architecture, will illustrate the installation. A special guest will be Ninetto Davoli, the leading actor in numerous Pasolini films, with whom professors Vittorio Celotto and Anna Masecchia will converse.
Four soundproof booths, whose shapes recall the P of the poet's acronym, will welcome anyone who wants to listen to excerpts of Pasolini's recordings. It will be enough to enter the booths, therefore, to listen to him read his own and other people's poems, discuss his literary and cinematographic works, and still intent on analyzing neocapitalist society with the acumen that has distinguished his cultural work.
Readings, interviews, statements are collected inside four empty booths, in which to introduce one's body, enter a purely auditory dimension, offer oneself to the act of listening, following a path that is not pre-established, but marked by four stages that represent as many nodes of the "discourse" of the corsair poet: One must have the strength of total criticism; The scandal of contradicting myself; Staying inside hell; Only loving, only knowing counts.
Comizi aims to free Pasolini from his icon to restore his incorporeal presence through his voice, which gives substance to the power of the word.
The intelligence and passion of what Pasolini told us pass through the tone, the modulations, the inflections, the measure of his speech. The subtle and precise timbre with which he covered his verses and his thoughts, on public and private occasions, penetrates the listener, conditioning his imagination.
The multiple incarnations of Pasolini's work resonate with different frequencies in their immaterial form, flatus vocis that transforms them into "traces" of a discourse that beats beyond the boundaries of what can be seen, to reiterate that "there is no other poetry than real action".
The installation will be open to visitors until March 31, 2023 at the Department of Humanistic Studies.
