The Dutch-flagged cargo vessel Sardius was detained yesterday in the port of Napoli following an inspection activity carried out by the inspectors of the “Port State Unit” of the Port Authority-Coast Guard of the Neapolitan capital.
The inspection was carried out in accordance with international procedures in two phases: the first involving the documentary evidence of the European inspection database (Thetis) and a second, carried out on board, with the control of the efficiency of equipment, supplies and operational readiness of the crew.
Following the checks carried out, some deficiencies emerged which made it necessary to issue the detention order which was promptly followed by the intervention of the bodies accredited by the Netherlands and those responsible for restoring the ship's full operability.
Once the operations were completed, today the vessel was subjected to a new inspection, again by the Coast Guard Unit, the successful outcome of which allowed the detention order to be revoked. Following the findings, fines of over 11 thousand euros were contested to the shipping company and the on-board command.
