“The cultural offering of Naples grows thanks to the relationship between the Region and Capodimonte because these exhibitions must also be supported and financed and this is only the latest exhibition that the Region supports and finances, together with Capodimonte and the State”.
This was stated by the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, on the sidelines of the inauguration of 'The Spanish in Naples' at the Capodimonte Museum.
And to reporters who asked if a greater contribution from the Municipality of Naples was necessary, De Luca replied: “You have to ask the Municipality”. De Luca recalled that Capodimonte hosted exhibitions of Picasso, Parade, Caravaggio, the exhibition on Santiago Calatrava “completely financed by the Campania Region and – he added – today we have this exhibition on the Spanish in Naples which is a significant event because it is an exhibition that concerns artists from a period that saw Naples under Spanish rule, a period that some historians have judged to be one of Naples’ decadence, starting with Croce, but which instead also saw a moment of great urban transformation with Pietro da Toledo who proposed and created the Spanish Quarters and via Toledo. It was - He continued - an extremely interesting period and this collaboration with the Prado Museum in Madrid is important”.
The President of the Region also recalled that “we will do another exhibition, also supported by the Campania Region, 'Capodimonte in Paris' in collaboration with the Louvre. So there is truly an important cultural offer, extraordinary if combined with the events we are organizing with the Mann museum, another great cultural institution. It seems to me that we are proposing things of great quality”.
