To fuel its development within the ecological transition, Italy already has at home 'a treasure' such as logistics and sustainable transport, between sea and rail, which should be increasingly valorised.
"During the pandemic we never stopped, it was only thanks to haulers and maritime operators that the country was able to move forward and, today, recover. The only and most competitive sustainable transport route is, now more than ever, maritime and rail intermodality". Word of Guido Grimaldi, President of Alis, Logistics Association of the Intersustainable Mode, today from the stage of the International Fair of Sustainable Logistics (LetExpo) on stage at Veronafiere.
But logistics, continues Grimaldi, is also a 'treasure' from the point of view of employment opportunities: “Working in the transport and logistics sector today - highlights the president of Alis - is an opportunity to travel and discover new places, to have an excellent salary and a secure job", thus contributing to making the country more sustainable. The president of Alis relaunches from the stage, citing the numbers of the same association: "Today we represent 2.200 members, 74 billion euros of aggregate turnover and 240.000 workers, women and men who represent the most precious resource. We want to instill new confidence, innovations and new trends now, as an environmental and socioeconomic response" at the current stage, insists Grimaldi.
According to the analysis conducted by the Alis Study Center with Srm, the think tanks of Intesa San Paolo, in 2023, “another million trucks will be transferred from the roads to the sea and the railways, compared to the already very positive numbers of 2022”, the president recalls in his greeting from the stage to the audience of operators. Last year, in particular, in the sector, 5,8 million trucks were 'stolen' from Italian roads and from Italy in general to Europe, equal to over 139 million tons of goods, generating a reduction of over 5,3 million tons of CO2 emissions. And all this “especially in Italy and for lines from Italy to Europe”, Grimaldi points out. But not only that.
There is also a saving of over 7 billion euros for all Italian citizens, thanks to the use of sea and rail transport compared to traditional road transport. In short, intermodality “allows the purchase of consumer goods at significantly lower and more advantageous prices for Italian families”, underlines the president of Alis.
He concludes: “We need to address the serious shortage of specialized professional figures, however, by intervening with greater incentives on hiring and lowering the costs of access to professions, insisting on training as we do with Alis Academy.
Over 80.000 attendees and accreditations were registered at the Verona fair, and we hope to reach 100.000 visitors by Sunday.
