In the Carinola prison, in the Caserta area, an inmate suffering from borderline personality disorder, after having spoken with the clerk in the Matricola office about the request for a permit of necessity, allegedly lashed out at a prison officer.
The autonomous penitentiary police union, Sappe, denounced this through the voice of the regional secretary for Campania, Tiziana Guacci. "The man – Guacci reconstructs – he refused to return to his cell, demanding to remain free.
Despite the various requests to return by the prison police personnel, he continued to resist and suddenly struck a chief assistant with a blunt object, of a certain weight, in the jaw. The assistant in question was immediately accompanied to the infirmary and subsequently to the nearby hospital for the necessary treatment".
The same prisoner, claims the regional secretary of Campania, had already on Wednesday 8 March and Thursday 9 March “carried out behaviors aimed at undermining the order and internal security of the institution”.
“For some time now, Sappe has been contesting the Campania Region Provisional Authority for delays in transferring troublemaking inmates and those who have engaged in violent and aggressive behavior towards Penitentiary Police personnel. As well as - concludes - the failure to assign prisoners with psychiatric problems to suitable facilities”.
