Source of science, nursery of knowledge. Thus the Licterae generales, which in 1224 announced the establishment of the Neapolitan Studium, contains the essence of the mission of the oldest state university in the world.

And so it is written on the pediment of the main building of the University of Napoli Frederick II, named after the Swabian emperor who founded it: 'Ad scientiarum haustum et seminarium doctrinarum'. It was the 5th of June, most likely, 799 years ago.

And the University of Frederick II is celebrating its centuries-old anniversary with a series of initiatives starting on Monday, June 5. The celebration of this anniversary 'Happy Birthday Frederick II' has been a consolidated event since 2015, marking the life of the academic community in view of the eight centuries that will be reached in 2024.

It begins, on the very day of the institution, with the awarding of the honorary master's degree in Geology and Applied Geology to Alberto Angela. The ceremony will be held on Monday 5 June, at 11 am, in the Aula Magna Storica of the University of Federico II, in the headquarters of Corso Umberto I, 40.

Introduced by the Rector Matteo Lorito and by Vincenzo Morra, Director of the Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences, the Laudatio will be held by Pasquale Raia, Professor of Paleontology and Paleoecology. The Lectio magistralis of the new doctor Alberto Angela will follow.

Live streaming and connection are also planned in the Pessina classroom, on the ground floor of the central building.

Thursday, June 8, at 10.30:XNUMX, in the Complex of Saints Marcellino and Festo, in Largo San Marcellino, the Day of the Federico II Student continues. First edition of the initiative dedicated to all the students of Federico II, who in various capacities, through music, words and images, will tell their experiences as Federico II students.

There will be student actors, musicians, athletes, students engaged 'beyond the classroom'. The morning will be opened by the Rector Matteo Lorito. At the end, greetings from the Vice-Rector Rita Mastrullo and a DJ Set by the students of F2 Radio Lab. The event, open to all, will also be streamed.

The celebrations continue on Friday, June 9, at 16.30:2023 p.m., in the Aula Magna Storica, with the Award Ceremony for the XNUMX Illustrious Graduates: Maurizio De Lucia, Attorney of Palermo; Angela Natale, President of Boeing Italia; Alessandro Preziosi, Actor; Gennaro Sangiuliano, Minister of Culture. The ceremony, by invitation, will be streamed.

As usual, this year too Federico II will celebrate together with the city with a concert in the square. At 20.30:XNUMX pm, in fact, the community of Federico II will move to Piazza del Gesù, for the Concert of Goran Bregović, a Bosnian musician and composer, accompanied by his band, the Wedding and Funeral Band, with trumpets, trombones, bass drum, clarinet, saxophone and Bulgarian voices.

The celebrations of the '799 years of Federician knowledge' will end on Monday 19 June, at 20 pm, in the Cortile delle Statue, in via Palladino 39, with 'Amadè and Federico. Mozart returns to Naples after 250 years for the birthday of Federico II', the concert, with free admission, with music by Wolfgang Amadé Mozart performed by the Alban Berg Ensemble Wien and accompanied on the piano by Maestro Michele Campanella.
