“Last morning I was in Ischia among the many waiting to board the 10:30 MedMar ferry to Naples.
A crew member, old and hot like everyone else, who was doing his job properly, was addressed with “Neapolitan s…t now you let me pass” from a young mother from the North, who claimed that she was entitled to skip the queue and get on board because she had a small child.
At this point I rose up, supported by many good Neapolitans present, and we made it clear to the "lady" that we do not allow anyone to offend us gratuitously and wildly, especially after having hosted and welcomed with cordiality those who come to know and appreciate all the beauty of our land.
I do not allow anyone to address us in this way, especially in our home. A group of Veronese who witnessed the deplorable scene later apologized to those present”.
The young Neapolitan woman waiting to board the ferry reported this to MP Borrelli, having rebelled after hearing the unacceptable insult that the tourist addressed to the crew member.
“A round of applause to the Neapolitans who civilly defend their dignity. Only with good examples can prejudices be erased. A bitter and regrettable episode that occurred at the port of Ischia. The tourist apostrophized herself.
Every comment may be superfluous and obvious, the authors capable of such baseness and ignorance are self-destructing. An episode like this does not even express racism but only pure idiocy and the northerners present were right to be ashamed and apologize.
They have a lot to learn from us and when they come to discover our riches they must do so on tiptoe." This was stated by Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a member of the Green Alliance – Left party who was informed of the episode.
